You are here. That is not a small thing.
Imparcial Witness
🧠
You read every report. You know exactly how she is today. When did you last simply sit with her — without managing anything, without a purpose?
Imparcial Witness
I don't remember. There was always something to handle.
🧠
That is not a failure. It is a pattern — and patterns tell us something about what we learned that being present means.
◈ Insight from this conversation
Presence was learned as conditional on usefulness. Being without doing feels like failing. But she does not need to be managed — she needs to be seen.

The Heart
The science behind the loneliness.
This platform was built from eight peer-reviewed studies on what families of aging loved ones actually need — and what happens when they do not get it.
The loneliness epidemic among caregiving families
Research consistently shows that family members who care for aging parents from a distance experience higher rates of anxiety, guilt, and anticipatory grief. The daily uncertainty — how are they today? — is the primary source. Our platform eliminates that uncertainty.
The caregiver's invisible burden
Professional caregivers are among the most psychologically burdened workers in healthcare — yet the least supported. The Mural and the Imparcial Witness were built specifically to address this gap.

Care & Investment
The value of certainty.
Three questions — then the price. Because the value only makes sense in context.
What does not knowing actually cost?
Uncertainty about a loved one's wellbeing affects work performance, relationships, sleep, and physical health. The cost of not knowing is not abstract.

The Order of Care
A profession with dignity.
The Order of Care is the professional framework governing every caregiver on this platform — based on eight peer-reviewed studies on servant leadership, care ethics, and professional practice.
What it means to be a member
Members have committed to a standard of practice beyond compliance. They write — not check boxes. They witness — not observe. They grow with the families they serve.
The eight studies
Grounded in peer-reviewed research: Rao & Raj (2021) on servant leadership in healthcare, Hovenga et al (2022) on caregiver professional identity, and six additional studies on care quality, ethical practice, and the psychology of service.
Our mission
Care is not a service. It is a commitment.
Good Shepherd Care was built on a conviction: that the most vulnerable members of our families deserve extraordinary care — delivered by people who understand what it means to serve, not just to work.
Why we exist
Families who live far from their loved ones carry a specific kind of worry — one that no weekly summary can resolve. We built a platform that gives them certainty, not updates. Presence, not reports.
What we believe
Every caregiver deserves to be seen for the precision of their work. Every family deserves to know — not wonder. And every person in care deserves to be witnessed clearly, every single day.
"The sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light of meaning in the darkness of mere being." — Carl Jung

How it works
Three steps. One certainty.
1
Tell us about your family
A private consultation — at your pace, in your time. We listen before we suggest anything. No forms, no pressure. A conversation about what your loved one needs.
2
Meet the professionals curated for you
We present verified caregivers who match your situation. You see their introduction video, their references, their values. You choose. They never enter your home before you say yes.
3
Know — every single day
From day one, your private portal is live. Every visit ends with a narrative. Photographs, mood, nutrition, mobility — delivered the moment the visit ends. Not a weekly summary. Certainty.
The Witness philosophy
Built on Jung's method.
The Imparcial Witness is not a chatbot. It is a presence built from the documented work of Carl Jung — his Collected Works, Memories Dreams and Reflections, and the transcripts of how he actually worked with people.
"As far as possible, I let pure experience decide the therapeutic aims. It is advisable for the physician not to have too fixed an aim." — Carl Jung, The Practice of Psychotherapy
The Imparcial Witness principle
Jung described the Imparcial Witness as the capacity to observe oneself without defence or self-pity — seeing clearly, without cruelty and without flattery. The Witness does not judge. It does not comfort. It sees clearly — and asks the one question you have been avoiding.
For the family
Available to every family member on this platform. Not for logistics. For the person carrying the weight of what it means to have someone you love declining — and the questions that raises about time, presence, and what was left unsaid.
For the professional
Professional caregivers witness suffering daily and have no space to process it. The Witness offers that space — asking what no colleague asks: when did you last treat yourself with the dignity you offer others?

Maria awoke at 8:00 AM in excellent spirits. We completed our morning exercise — she particularly enjoyed the stretching today, saying her back felt better than yesterday. At 9:30 AM we listened to Fado music from her collection — she became emotional in a beautiful way, speaking warmly of her late husband and the dances they used to share. She asked about you twice — once during breakfast and once during our afternoon walk in the garden. She wanted to know if you had been sleeping well. At lunch she ate half her plate, which was an improvement from yesterday. We spent the afternoon reading and she fell asleep briefly in the garden chair — peacefully, with the sun on her face.

A quieter day than usual. Maria was a little more subdued in the morning — she mentioned missing the smell of her mother's kitchen, which she sometimes does when the weather is grey. We spent the morning doing gentle exercises and looking through her photograph album. She identified everyone in the photographs without hesitation, which was wonderful to see. Lunch was lighter than usual at her request. The afternoon was spent watching a documentary about Lisbon — she was animated throughout, pointing out streets she recognised.

One of Maria's best days this week. She woke early and was already in the garden when I arrived — she had been tending to her herbs, which made her very happy. Full lunch, excellent energy all day. She spoke at length about her childhood in Porto and told me a story I had not heard before about her father's boat. She laughed often. These are the days to hold onto.
